Congress MP Manish Tewari questioned the legal status of J. Yashwant Varma’s resignation in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday. “Can Parliament impeach a judge who has resigned but whose resignation has either not been accepted or has not been notified?” Tewari asked, noting that Varma “continues to appear as a judge” on the Allahabad High Court website. Tewari also flagged Punjab’s “debt of Rs 4,47,000 crore” and “55% debt-to-GDP ratio”, while highlighting five challenges, including groundwater depletion, farm distress, employment and what he described as “narco terrorism”, ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.
