India's passenger vehicle market tilts towards cleaner fuels; alternatives cross petrol: Report

Cleaner-fuel vehicles now account for 42 percent of passenger car sales in India. This marks the first time these alternatives have outsold petrol-powered vehicles. Petrol's market share dropped to a record low of 41 percent in August. Compressed natural gas vehicles saw their share rise to 25 percent. Electric car sales increased significantly, reaching 7.7 percent penetration.
