Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy is escalating the Trump administration’s crackdown on commercial truck drivers as a legal battle erupts over federal access to driver licensing data. Duffy accused 21 states and the District of Columbia of trying to block the federal government from accessing information it says is critical to identifying dangerous, illegally licensed or unqualified truck drivers. The lawsuit follows the anniversary of a deadly Florida Turnpike crash in August 2025 that killed three people. Federal officials say the collision involved an undocumented driver operating a commercial vehicle with an illegally issued license.
