ASI-Stochastic Trend-Pullback Hybrid
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Commodities · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
This strategy hypothesizes that price trends are best captured by entering during momentum pullbacks (Stochastic) that are confirmed by cumulative price pressure (ASI). It assumes that a 'stable' technical regime (proxied by the Array Avg Label Test) is required for these signals to be valid. The edge lies in the confluence of trend (SMA), momentum (Stoch), and structural price strength (ASI).
Components
- Unsupported Array Avg Label Method Test (regime) — Serves as a 'Runtime Integrity Check'; in this hypothesis, the strategy assumes the market structure is valid only when the execution environment can handle complex data structures, though here it functions as a logic gate.
- Simple Moving Average (direction) — Defines the primary trend direction to ensure momentum trades are taken in alignment with the broader market flow.
- Stochastic Oscillator (entry) — Identifies mean-reversion entries within the trend (oversold pullbacks in an uptrend; overbought bounces in a downtrend).
- Stochastic Oscillator (exit) — Used for dynamic profit-taking when momentum reaches exhaustion in the trade direction.
- Chandelier Exit (risk) — Provides a volatility-adjusted trailing stop loss based on the Average True Range (ATR) to protect capital.
- Accumulation Swing Index (ASI) (confirmation) — Provides confirmation of 'true' price direction by aggregating opening and closing relationships relative to previous ranges.
Known failure conditions
- ASI values diverge significantly across different timeframes or starting points, leading to inconsistent confirmation signals.
- The 'Unsupported Array Avg Label' logic causes runtime errors or prevents all trade execution due to its inherent mathematical invalidity.
- Price remains in a low-volatility 'grind' where Chandelier Exit stops are hit frequently by noise despite the SMA direction being correct.
