Braid-UT Momentum Convergence System
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
Market trends are most likely to persist when momentum (REI), multi-indicator confirmation (GFRMa), and volatility expansion (Braid Filter) converge simultaneously. By using UT Bot for direction and SuperTrend for risk, we separate directional bias from structural market support, theoretically reducing the 'stop-out' frequency of tight trailing stops.
Components
- Average True Range (ATR) (regime) — Defines the volatility regime to ensure the strategy only operates when movement is sufficient to cover spreads and commissions.
- UT Bot Alerts (MQL5) (direction) — Provides the primary trend bias and structural direction using volatility-adjusted trailing stops.
- Range Expansion Index (REI) (entry) — Used for precise momentum entry; its noise-filtering logic avoids late entries common in standard oscillators.
- Parabolic SAR (exit) — Provides an accelerating trailing exit to lock in profits as momentum exhausts.
- SuperTrend (risk) — Used specifically for calculating the initial stop loss level and determining position sizing based on structural volatility.
- GFRMa Pivot HTF3 Dashboard (confirmation) — Multi-indicator confirmation ensures that RSI and CCI momentum align with the price-action breakout.
- Braid Filter (ATR Optimized) (volatility_filter) — Acts as a secondary volatility/strength gate, ensuring moving average spreads are widening significantly before entry.
Known failure conditions
- Persistent sideways price action where price oscillates within the SuperTrend and UT Bot bands without touching Parabolic SAR levels.
- ATR dropping below the 50-period moving average of ATR, indicating a low-liquidity environment where indicators lose predictive power.
