Darvas-Aroon HA Momentum Breakout
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Price equilibrium (Darvas Box) is disrupted by capital flows, detectable through the time-since-extreme (Aroon). By entering on smoothed momentum (HA Stochastic) and using market structure for risk (Boxline), the strategy captures the 'meat' of a trend while avoiding noise.
Components
- Darvas Boxes MetaTrader 5 (regime) — Acts as the primary regime filter; trades are only taken when price breaks out of established consolidation boxes.
- Aroon (direction) — Confirms the directional surge by measuring the time since the last extreme, ensuring the breakout has momentum.
- OTLIB Stochastic Oscillator (Heikin-Ashi based) (entry) — Generates the entry trigger by identifying momentum acceleration within the smoothed Heikin-Ashi space.
- ATR Heiken Ashi (exit) — Determines the exit threshold by measuring volatility-adjusted exhaustion.
- Boxline (Dynamic Range Breakout) (risk) — Defines the risk boundary (Stop Loss) based on the most recent dynamic range floor/ceiling.
- Moving Average Ribbon (chingc) (confirmation) — Provides secondary trend confirmation by requiring the fast ribbon to be aligned and above/below long-term averages.
Known failure conditions
- Price consistently reverts to the Middle line of the Boxline indicator before reaching ATR-based targets.
- Aroon Up/Down cross frequently without price leaving the Darvas Box (whipsaw).
- Heikin-Ashi Stochastic repaints entry signals that vanish upon bar close.
