Darvas-Volume Node Momentum Breakout
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, Commodities · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
Markets spend 70% of the time in consolidation (High Volume Nodes). A breakout from these nodes represents a shift in market consensus. By requiring a Darvas Box breakout to occur within a Volume by Level Map 'hotspot' while SilverTrend confirms momentum, we identify high-probability trend transitions. The Chandelier Exit and HiLo Activator act as dynamic filters to ensure we stay in the trend only as long as volatility and direction remain favorable.
Components
- Volume by Level Map (regime) — Identify 'High Volume Nodes' (HVN) where price has historically consolidated, setting the stage for a high-conviction breakout.
- SilverTrend Sv2 (direction) — Filters the Darvas breakout by ensuring momentum is already pointing in the direction of the trade.
- Darvas Boxes MetaTrader 5 (entry) — Provides the tactical entry trigger when price breaches a multi-bar consolidation ceiling or floor.
- HiLo_04 (Gann HiLo Activator) (exit) — Used as a primary trend-exhaustion exit to capture the meat of a move before a full reversal.
- Chandelier Exit Heiken Ashi Variant (risk) — Provides a volatility-adjusted initial stop-loss and trailing mechanism using smoothed Heiken Ashi data.
Known failure conditions
- Price remains within a +/- 1% range for more than 50 bars (High Volume Node trap).
- Failure of SilverTrend to flip within 5 bars of a Darvas breakout.
- Chandelier Exit ATR multiplier causes stop-loss to be wider than the Darvas Box height itself.
