DMLC: Double-Smoothed Momentum Liquidity Capture
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX Majors, Equity Indices, Gold (XAUUSD) · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
Market participants often overreact to initial price movements, creating momentum that persists when supported by institutional liquidity (SNAP levels). By entering only when double-smoothed momentum (TSI) aligns with trend strength (ADXR) and directional bias (ROC), we can capture the 'expansion' phase of a trend while using institutional breaker blocks as structural protection for our risk. The edge exists because TSI filters out retail noise, while SNAP identifies where large orders are likely clustered.
Components
- Indicator Base Template (regime) — Serves as the data-validity layer and object manager to prevent prefix collisions for the SNAP-drawn institutional levels.
- Rate of Change (ROC) (direction) — Establishes the primary time-series momentum bias; price must be moving in the direction of the trade relative to a lookback window.
- True Strength Index (TSI) with Signal Line (entry) — Provides a double-smoothed trigger to reduce the noise inherent in raw momentum, entering only when the 'true' strength crosses its signal line.
- TSI Convergence Divergence (TSI_CD) (exit) — Detects the early stages of momentum deceleration via slope changes in the TSI/Signal spread, allowing for exits before a full reversal.
- SNAP HTF_LTF Indicator (risk) — Provides institutional 'magnets' and 'shields' (liquidity pools and breaker blocks) to define non-arbitrary stop-loss and take-profit targets.
- Average Directional Movement Index Rating (ADXR) (confirmation) — Ensures that momentum-based entries are only taken during periods of significant trend strength to avoid whip-saw in low-volatility ranges.
Known failure conditions
- ADXR remains below 20 for more than 50 bars, indicating a breakdown of trending behavior.
- Price action repeatedly 'ghosts' through identified Weekly Liquidity Pools without any reaction, suggesting structural irrelevance.
- ROC and TSI provide conflicting directional signals for an entire trading session.
