Efficient Volume-Breakout Framework
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities, FX, Crypto · Timeframes: 1H, 4H, 1D
Thesis
Market trends are most tradable when price appreciation significantly outpaces realized volatility (high ROC/HV). By filtering for these 'efficient' moves and entering only when price breaks through high-volume structural resistance (Volumatic S/R), we capture institutional participation while using the Volatility Ratio (VR) to ensure our risk exposure is proportional to the immediate market 'noise'.
Components
- Annualized ROC / HV Ratios (regime) — Filters for high-quality momentum by ensuring the rate of return exceeds the realized volatility (rolling Sharpe).
- Extrem SuperTrend (direction) — Defines the local trend direction and ensures entry is aligned with recent price-action volatility.
- Volumatic Support/Resistance Levels [BigBeluga] (entry) — Provides the precise trigger by identifying levels where significant volume-weighted structure is broken.
- MACD (exit) — Used to identify momentum exhaustion and provide a timely exit before a full trend reversal.
- Volatility Ratio (VR) (risk) — Provides a dynamic multiplier for stop-loss distance based on immediate volatility expansion versus historical averages.
- MA Channel (Framework Version) (volatility_filter) — Acts as a secondary filter to ensure price is operating outside of a central value-area before initiating trend trades.
Known failure conditions
- Prolonged periods of ROC/HV oscillating near zero (low-quality chop).
- Volume normalization failure where 'Width' remains static across major price moves.
- Successive MACD exits that occur before price reaches 1:1 risk/reward.
