Gann-Force Structural Momentum
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: M15, H1
Thesis
The strategy hypothesizes that momentum breakouts (Average Force 0-cross) have higher validity when they align with the dominant Gann-style price regime. By using TimeBlock boundaries for risk, the strategy assumes that session highs/lows act as structural support/resistance that must hold for a trend to remain intact, while Bollinger Bands provide a volatility-normalized exit for mean reversion or trend exhaustion.
Components
- HiLo Activator (Gann Style) (regime) — Provides the primary trend filter (Regime) to ensure momentum signals are only taken in the direction of the broader price structure.
- Average Force (direction) — Measures the internal momentum of price relative to its range; the zero-cross acts as the directional confirmation.
- Arrows Indicator Template (entry) — Acts as the execution bridge, triggering a visual and alert signal only when the Regime and Directional components align.
- Bollinger Bands (exit) — Used for dynamic take-profit targets based on volatility exhaustion (outer bands) or trend failure (middle band).
- TimeBlocks (Multifunctional Period Separator) (risk) — Defines risk parameters using session-based high/low boundaries and VWAP balance to calculate stop loss and position size.
Known failure conditions
- More than 3 alternating HiLo state flips within a single TimeBlock period (indicates severe chop).
- Average Force oscillates around zero without touching the 0.2/-0.2 levels, suggesting lack of conviction.
