Gator DEMA Momentum Scalpel
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, Indices · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
Trading edge is found by entering a trend when the Gator Oscillator signals the 'Awakening' or 'Eating' phase (volatility expansion) only when confirmed by institutional-level momentum (DEMA/ADX) and constructive volume delta, using a dynamic exit (PSAR) to capture the meat of the move.
Components
- Gator Oscillator (regime) — Acts as the primary regime filter to ensure the market is leaving a 'Sleeping' (low volatility) phase and entering an 'Awakening' or 'Eating' (trending) phase.
- Trend Bars (direction) — Provides the directional bias; trades are only taken in the direction of the color-coded candles relative to the high/low channel.
- DEMA 200 & ADX Combined HUD (entry) — The core entry trigger that requires price to be on the correct side of the DEMA while ADX confirms sufficient momentum is present.
- Equity Line Projection (exit) — Used to visualize and set target exit levels based on a fixed 2:1 Reward-to-Risk projection.
- Parabolic SAR (risk) — Used for both the initial stop-loss placement and the dynamic trailing of the position.
- Footmap – Heat & Volume [v1] (confirmation) — Confirms entry by ensuring the synthetic delta matches the trade direction, suggesting aggressive participation at the candle level.
- Spread Monitor (Tick-Level) (volatility_filter) — Prevents entry during periods of toxic liquidity or high slippage risk by filtering for tight spreads.
Known failure conditions
- ADX remains below 20 for extended periods while price oscillates around the 200 DEMA.
- Gator Oscillator bars flip colors frequently (alternating green/red) without expansion.
- Average spread exceeds 2x the instrument's median spread during key sessions.
