KNN-Volume Momentum Inertia Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex (Major Pairs), Equities (High Volume), Crypto (Blue Chips) · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
Market trends possess more 'inertia' when price movement is supported by volume and verified by historical price-volume patterns (KNN). By using Heiken Ashi to filter noise and a dual-momentum confirmation (AF & ROC), the strategy enters only when a trend has structural and volume-based validity. The edge lies in the KNN's ability to classify current volume-weighted volatility against historical 'neighbors' to avoid exhausted trends.
Components
- Heiken Ashi (Standard MT5) (regime) — Filters out intra-bar noise to ensure the strategy only operates within a established directional regime.
- Average Force (direction) — Provides a zero-line crossover signal to ensure the 'close' price momentum is aligned with the trend direction.
- Volume SuperTrend AI (Expo) (entry) — Combines volume-weighted price action with KNN-based classification to identify high-probability entry points.
- HiLo Activator (Gann Style) (exit) — Acts as a dynamic trailing exit that responds to shifts in the high/low range structure.
- ATR Projection (risk) — Provides volatility-adjusted risk parameters for stop loss placement and position sizing.
- Rate of Change (ROC) (confirmation) — Confirms that the momentum shift is accelerating rather than decaying at the point of entry.
Known failure conditions
- Prolonged period of low-volume sideways price action where ROC and AF oscillate around zero.
- Consecutive whipsaws where HiLo Activator triggers an exit immediately after a KNN-confirmed entry.
- Structural volatility shift where ATR triples within 5 bars, rendering previous SL levels irrelevant.
