MTF Structural Momentum Breakout
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex, Equity Indices · Timeframes: M15, H1
Thesis
The strategy hypothesizes that sustainable intraday breakouts occur when macro trend alignment (MAx6) is supported by medium-term volatility (SuperTrend) and confirmed by structural fractal breaks (Best Volume) during peak session liquidity, while using smoothed volatility (ATR Heiken Ashi) to filter out noise-induced stop-outs.
Components
- MA(x6) Multi-Timeframe Visualizer (regime) — Establishes the macro trend regime; entries are only permitted in the direction of the Daily (1440) moving average projection.
- SuperTrend (direction) — Acts as an intermediate trend filter to ensure the medium-term volatility-adjusted trend is aligned with the macro regime.
- Best Volume Trend Expert (entry) — Provides the specific execution trigger by requiring price to break structural fractal levels during high-liquidity windows with MACD confirmation.
- QQE (Qualitative Quantitative Estimation) (exit) — Provides a momentum-based exit signal by detecting when the smoothed RSI momentum begins to fade relative to its own volatility band.
- ATR Heiken Ashi (risk) — Determines position sizing and stop-loss distance using smoothed volatility to avoid premature exits during noise.
- Bollinger Bands (volatility_filter) — Prevents entering trades when the market is overextended (touching outer bands) or in a low-volatility squeeze where breakouts are less reliable.
Known failure conditions
- Persistent sideways price action resulting in SuperTrend whipsaws despite MAx6 alignment.
- Breakdown of the correlation between price structure and fractal levels during low-volume holiday periods.
- Significant divergence between standard ATR and Heiken Ashi ATR during news events.
