Persistent Order-Flow Breakout (POB) Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX, Equities (Indices), Commodities · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
The 'Non-Random Momentum' hypothesis posits that market edges are only accessible when the RWI confirms the move is not a result of a random walk. By combining this with Order Block structure (institutional footprint) and ASI (cumulative 'true' price), we enter only when structural, momentum, and fractal trend dimensions align.
Components
- Random Walk Index (RWI BTF) (regime) — Used as a regime filter to ensure the market is in a non-random, trending state (RWI > 1.0) before permitting entry signals.
- Rate of Change (by PK) (direction) — Provides a higher-timeframe momentum filter to ensure that the immediate price direction aligns with the broader impulse.
- MACD EMA Crossover Visualizer (entry) — Acts as the primary entry trigger when the fast EMA crosses the slow EMA in the direction of the momentum and regime.
- TSI Convergence Divergence (TSI_CD) (exit) — Used for exit logic; a narrowing or reversal of the TSI histogram suggests momentum exhaustion before a hard stop is hit.
- Sonarlab - Order Blocks (risk) — Determines the Stop Loss placement at the structural extreme of the most recent unmitigated Order Block and defines the risk-unit for sizing.
- Accumulation Swing Index (ASI) (confirmation) — Confirming the 'real' price movement by ensuring the ASI is making new highs/lows corresponding with the price action, filtering out fakeouts.
- Boxline (Dynamic Range Breakout) (volatility_filter) — Serves as a volatility filter; trades are only valid if price has recently broken out of a consolidated 'box' range.
Known failure conditions
- Extended periods where RWI oscillates around 1.0, causing the regime to flicker.
- Price failing to return to or respect identified Order Blocks, suggesting a breakdown in market structure logic.
- Significant divergence between ASI and price during a breakout, indicating a weak-handed move.
