Round-Zone Momentum Bias Strategy

Thesis
Market participants cluster liquidity around psychological round numbers. This creates an edge when an impulse (MACD) is supported by volume (PVT) and statistical bias (Mean Error), provided that the volatility environment is stable (MdAE). By using session-specific boundaries (TimeBlocks) for risk, we capture the volatility expansion out of these key zones while filtering for noise.
Components
- Round Levels Zone Shading (regime) — Provides the structural regime; trades are only initiated when price is interacting with institutional 'Big Figure' zones.
- Price and Volume Trend (PVT) (direction) — Ensures that price movement is supported by tick volume, filtering out low-liquidity 'ghost' moves.
- Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) - Custom Periods (entry) — Acts as an ultra-fast momentum trigger to capture the immediate impulse out of a round-number zone.
- QQE (Qualitative Quantitative Estimation) (exit) — Provides a trailing volatility-based exit that allows winners to run while exiting on momentum shifts.
- TimeBlocks (Multifunctional Period Separator) (risk) — Defines the hard risk boundaries (Session High/Low) and provides the VWAP reference for stop placement.
- Mean Error (ME) (confirmation) — Confirms directional bias; a positive ME suggests price is consistently exceeding estimates, favoring longs.
- Median Absolute Error (volatility_filter) — Filters for volatility stability; trades are only taken when MdAE is below its recent average to avoid outlier noise.
Known failure conditions
- Price consistently ignores round numbers (low regime relevance).
- Volume data (PVT) becomes decoupled from price action due to broker-specific tick data variations.
- MACD (2,3,2) produces more than 5 consecutive whipsaws in a high-volatility sideways market.
