SMC-ML Structural Expansion Strategy
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: US Equities, Index Futures (ES/NQ), Liquid Forex Majors (EUR/USD) · Timeframes: M30, H1
Thesis
The hypothesis is that session-defined liquidity levels (Opening Range) act as high-probability reversal or continuation nodes, but only when they coincide with a confirmed shift in market structure (BOS) and are validated by a volatility-adaptive trend filter (ML SuperTrend). By waiting for a volatility contraction (Inside Bar) at these levels and scaling risk based on the relative error of price action (RAE), the strategy captures the start of the 'trend-expansion' phase while filtering out noise.
Components
- BOS_CHoCH_Detector (regime) — Establishes the macro market structure regime (Bullish/Bearish) to ensure trades align with institutional order flow breaks.
- ML SuperTrend (Ultimate) - Auto-Optimized AI with LSTM (direction) — Provides the primary trend direction using LSTM-optimized volatility offsets, filtering out noise that traditional SuperTrend misses.
- Trepidity Opening Range with Extensions (entry) — Defines the intraday supply/demand zones. Entries are only valid when price interacts with these session-specific extensions.
- Qualitative Quantitative Estimation (QQE) (exit) — Uses smoothed RSI volatility bands to provide a dynamic trailing exit that is less sensitive to wicks than price-based trailing stops.
- Relative Absolute Error (RAE) (risk) — Measures the 'efficiency' of price movement. High RAE indicates chaotic volatility, triggering smaller position sizes or wider stops.
- Inside Bars (MTF Framework) (confirmation) — Acts as a volatility contraction trigger; signifies the "coiling" before an expansion at a key opening range level.
- MA-Candlesticks (volatility_filter) — Filters out micro-volatility by requiring the smoothed price trend (MA-Close > MA-Open) to match the trade direction.
Known failure conditions
- Consecutive session opens (Trepidity) with no clear extension touches, indicating a range-bound market unsuitable for BOS logic.
- ML SuperTrend 'base_fact' oscillating rapidly (overfitting sign), leading to direction flip-flopping.
- RAE value exceeding 1.5 consistently, suggesting price action has decoupled from its 100-period mean (extreme tail risk).
