SMC Momentum-Confirmed Trailing System
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex (Majors), Crypto (BTC/ETH), Indices (DAX, S&P500) · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Market reversals are structural events; the Change of Character (CHoCH) identifies the start of this shift, but requires momentum confirmation (MACD) to filter out noise. The edge exists because institutional participants create structural breaks that retail momentum traders then fuel, creating a trend that can be trailed via ATR-based stops until exhaustion is detected via the Bulls/Bears balance.
Components
- Indicator Sample (Template) (regime) — Acts as a 'cold-start' filter to ensure the trading environment has sufficient historical depth (iBars) for the TradeEase pivot logic to stabilize.
- TradeEase (direction) — Identifies the Change of Character (CHoCH), which signals a potential institutional shift in market direction.
- MACD Classic (3-Line) (entry) — Functions as the execution trigger to confirm that the SMC shift is backed by momentum, reducing the risk of entering on a low-volume 'fakeout' CHoCH.
- Bears Power (exit) — Used as an exhaustion exit; when sellers regain strength (in a long) or lose strength (in a short) relative to the EMA, the position is liquidated.
- Extrem SuperTrend (risk) — Provides a volatility-adjusted trailing stop and initial hard stop based on the ATR bands.
Known failure conditions
- Price remains in a range where CHoCH signals flip-flop repeatedly (whipsaw).
- Macroeconomic events (news) cause price to bypass the SuperTrend stop level with significant slippage.
- Structural failure where the TradeEase indicator repaints its signal AFTER the MACD confirmation.
