Squeeze-RSX Ichimoku Breakout
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equity Indices, Commodities · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
The strategy assumes that periods of price equilibrium (Ichimoku Cloud) and low volatility (Squeeze) store potential energy. A simultaneous expansion in volatility, momentum (Corrected RSX), and price structure (Ichimoku Cross) indicates the start of a high-probability directional move that can be managed via trend-following trailing stops.
Components
- Squeeze Break (John Carter) (regime) — Acts as the volatility gatekeeper; only allows trades when the market transitions from compression (squeeze) to expansion (breakout).
- Corrected RSX (direction) — Provides a noise-filtered momentum bias, ensuring the breakout has sufficient underlying strength without the whipsaws of a standard RSI.
- Ichimoku Kinko Hyo (entry) — Confirms the breakout occurs within a structural trend (Price vs Cloud) and provides the final execution trigger (Tenkan/Kijun cross).
- HiLo Activator (Pandini Version) (exit) — Used as a trend-following trailing exit to capture the majority of the volatility expansion until the trend exhausts.
- ATR Fib (risk) — Defines hard risk boundaries based on a fixed session volatility projection.
Known failure conditions
- Price remains trapped within the Ichimoku Cloud for more than 48 hours.
- The Squeeze Break histogram oscillates around zero (flickering) during a supposed breakout.
- Realized volatility exceeds the static ATR input by more than 3x within a single session.
