Statistical SNAP-Back VWAP Arbitrage
Family: hybrid · Regime: ranging · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities (Large Cap), ETFs (Sector Pairs) · Timeframes: 1H, 4H
Thesis
The hypothesis is that assets exhibiting high cointegration with a benchmark will eventually revert to their mean relationship when they deviate. By using Bulls Power to confirm momentum and VWAP to identify institutional 'value,' we can enter trades during pullbacks that are likely to snap back to the mean. The edge exists because price deviations in cointegrated pairs are often temporary liquidity-driven events rather than fundamental shifts.
Components
- Cointegration (COINTEGRATION) (regime) — Filters for assets currently exhibiting a strong statistical mean-reverting relationship with the broader market, ensuring a stable 'anchor' for trades.
- Bulls Power (direction) — Confirms that even within a mean-reverting regime, there is sufficient momentum to drive the price back toward the equilibrium.
- VWAP + EMA Cross Pullback (entry) — Identifies institutional entry points where price retraces to the VWAP while the short-term trend (EMA) remains intact.
- Ichimoku Kinko Hyo (exit) — Uses the Kijun-sen and Cloud boundaries to detect momentum exhaustion or trend reversal to exit positions.
- SNAP HTF_LTF Indicator (risk) — Utilizes institutional supply/demand zones and weekly liquidity levels to set hard structural stops and calculate risk.
Known failure conditions
- ADF Statistic rises above -2.5 (loss of cointegration).
- VWAP and EMA 20 converge and remain flat for >10 bars (dead volatility).
- Price breaches the SNAP Weekly Major Liquidity Pool in the opposite direction of the trade.
