Statistical Volatility Grid with Cyclical Entry
Family: hybrid · Regime: mixed · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX, Equities · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
The strategy assumes that currency pairs exhibit cyclical behavior within volatility-defined boundaries. By identifying periods where momentum (ASH) and relative currency strength (CSM) align with a cycle extreme (Fisher), we can enter trades that are likely to revert to a statistical mean. The edge lies in using a second, correlated asset (AI Pair System) to define the exit, assuming that statistical relationships between pairs are more reliable than fixed Take Profit levels.
Components
- Grid Bot [Grid range plugin] Two Moving Avarages [psyll] (regime) — Defines the volatility-adjusted 'fair value' range; trades are only valid if price is within these dynamic boundaries to avoid chasing vertical parabolic moves.
- Absolute Strength Histogram (ASH) (direction) — Filters for underlying momentum direction by comparing smoothed bullish vs bearish components.
- Fisher Transform (EarnForex) (entry) — Identifies cyclical turning points by normalizing price distributions; used for precise timing of the entry after momentum and regime are confirmed.
- AI Pair Trading System v1.0 (exit) — Acts as the primary exit mechanism by signaling when the asset has reached a mean-reversion target or when a statistical relationship between related pairs has normalized.
- Boxline (Range Breakout) (risk) — Provides structural stop-loss levels based on the most recent consolidation range, ensuring risk is pegged to market structure.
- Currency Strength Matrix (All) (confirmation) — Ensures the trade is backed by a strength differential in the underlying currencies, preventing trades on weak, non-representative momentum.
Known failure conditions
- Persistent failure of price to respect the Grid High/Low boundaries, indicating a regime shift toward high-velocity trending.
- Statistical decoupling of the pair used in the AI Pair Trading System, leading to 'stuck' Z-scores that never revert.
- Rapid expansion of Boxline ranges, indicating volatility is too high for the Fisher-based cycle entries.
