Velocity-Volume Fractal Trend Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Commodities · Timeframes: H4, D1
Thesis
This strategy assumes that high-velocity price movements (filtered by REI) backed by volume (MFI) and structural momentum (MACD/OsMA) identify the 'meat' of a trend. By using fractal-based stops, we anchor our risk to market structure pivots, while the ADX ensures we exit when the directional intensity fades. The edge lies in the exclusion of 'noise' through the REI and confirmation through the MFI volume-weighted ratio.
Components
- Range Expansion Index (REI) (regime) — Filters out noise by ensuring the market is not in a 'stagnant' velocity state before allowing trend signals.
- MACD & OSMA Cloud Hybrid (direction) — Identifies the primary directional bias and momentum acceleration (the OsMA color coding).
- Money Flow Index (MFI) (entry) — Triggers entries when volume-weighted momentum aligns with the price direction, ensuring liquidity support.
- ADX / Connectable [Azullian] (exit) — Determines when trend strength is exhausting or the directional movement (DI) has flipped.
- Support and Resistance (Fractal-based) (risk) — Uses recent pivot highs/lows for hard stop placement and position sizing based on structural volatility.
- Stochastic Oscillator (confirmation) — Acts as a secondary 'timing' confirmation to ensure we aren't buying into an immediate extreme peak.
Known failure conditions
- Persistence of zero-value REI during high-volatility news events (signal lag).
- Repeated stop-outs on fractal levels during 'grinding' trends with shallow pullbacks.
- MFI and Stochastic divergence where volume flows out while price remains flat.
