Thesis
Market participants react to volatility breaks with herd behavior; by combining a Keltner breakout with MACD/Momentum confirmation and market-structure risk (PiPi), we can capture the core of a trend shift while using repainting ZigZag only for historical macro-contextual filtering.
Components
- ZigZag (regime) — Used exclusively to identify past structural peaks/troughs to ensure the strategy is not trading against a major established counter-trend (Macro filter).
- Momentum (Example) (direction) — Confirms that the breakout has sufficient velocity to overcome local liquidity clusters.
- Keltner Channels (entry) — Provides the execution trigger via an Upper/Lower band break, indicating a volatility expansion.
- HiLo_04 (Gann HiLo Activator) (exit) — Acts as the trend-following trailing stop; once price closes below/above this average on the opposite side, the trend is considered exhausted.
- PiPi (Price Infrastructure & Position Interface) (risk) — Used for precise initial stop-loss placement based on the Middle/Fib levels of the most recent market context.
- MACD (confirmation) — Serves as a secondary momentum filter to prevent 'fakeouts' by ensuring the histogram is moving in the direction of the break.
Known failure conditions
- Price repeatedly crosses the Keltner Band but closes back inside the range within 2 bars (False Breakout Regime).
- Momentum remains near 100 while MACD stays flat, indicating a low-volume grinding market where spreads erode edge.
