Aroon-Ehlers Gator Trend System
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Forex (Major Pairs), Equities (Liquid Blue Chips) · Timeframes: H1 (Entry), H4 (Filter)
Thesis
The strategy hypothesizes that market trends are fractal (visible across TFs) and cyclical. By using Aroon to detect the 'age' of a trend and Ehlers DSP to time entries during cyclical dips, we enter trends with momentum. We assume that trend exhaustion is best captured by volatility contraction (Gator Oscillator) rather than price targets, allowing for asymmetric returns.
Components
- ProfitRobots Dashboard Template (regime) — Filters for multi-timeframe trend alignment, ensuring the local setup aligns with the broader H4/D1 market direction.
- Aroon (direction) — Identifies the strength and age of the current trend; ensures the entry is during a fresh trend phase (Aroon Up > 70) rather than an exhausted one.
- Ehlers Detrended Synthetic Price (DSP) (entry) — Acts as the timing trigger by isolating the short-term cycle; allows for entry on a cyclical low within a structural uptrend.
- Gator Oscillator (exit) — Signals the exhaustion of volatility; the 'Sated' phase (bars turning red) indicates the trend impulse is decelerating, triggering an exit.
- Support and Resistance (Fractal-based) (risk) — Provides objective, structure-based stop loss levels and determines position sizing based on recent swing highs/lows.
Known failure conditions
- Successive stop-outs in a range-bound market where DSP cycles trigger entries but Gator never expands (volatility collapse).
- Multi-timeframe trend divergence where H1 and H4 dashboard signals frequently flip-flop.
