ASI-WaveTrend Fractal Structuralist
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, High-Cap Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
The strategy operates on the hypothesis that sustainable trends are characterized by a convergence of 'true' price swings (ASI), institutional volume reclaims (WaveTrend Score), and a moderate (not extreme) rate of logarithmic error expansion (MSLE). By entering on fractal breaks after these conditions align, the strategy exploits the behavioral tendency of markets to trend once structural and volume-based resistance is cleared, while the MSLE filter prevents entry into exhausted, 'blow-off' moves.
Components
- Accumulation Swing Index (ASI) (regime) — Defines the macro 'true' price direction. It filters out noise by comparing the current swing relative to a manual limit move, ensuring we only trade in the direction of the cumulative market force.
- WaveTrend v3 [WavesUnchained] (direction) — Provides the directional bias. The 'Context Score' (integrating POC reclaims and HTF alignment) ensures that local momentum is supported by higher-timeframe volume structures.
- Trend Break Fractal (entry) — Acts as the execution trigger. By waiting for a break of two consecutive fractals, we ensure the market has overcome a local structural pivot before entering.
- Waddah Attar Explosion (WAE) (exit) — Used for dynamic exits. It identifies when the 'explosion' (momentum) falls back below the volatility envelope (Bollinger), signaling trend exhaustion.
- Support and Resistance (Fractal-based) (risk) — Provides objective price-based stop-loss levels. Using 5-bar fractals ensures the stop is placed behind a mathematically significant structural pivot.
- Mean Error (ME) (confirmation) — Filters for directional bias stability. A positive ME indicates price is consistently staying above its expected mean, confirming an 'expensive' but trending market for longs.
- Mean Squared Logarithmic Error (MSLE) (volatility_filter) — Filters for volatility exhaustion. By measuring the squared log error, we avoid entering when price has deviated too violently/parabolically from its average (high MSLE).
Known failure conditions
- ASI divergence: If price makes new highs but ASI fails to follow, the regime is weakening.
- Low volatility 'DeadZone': WAE staying within the DeadZonePip threshold indicates a range where fractal breaks are likely to be whipsaws.
- Parameter Sensitivity: The 'T' (Limit Move) in ASI being set incorrectly for the specific asset's volatility.
