CVD-Fractal Volatility Breakout
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
A market edge exists when a price breakout through fractal-based resistance/support coincides with a surge in volume delta (CVD) and directional momentum (ADX), provided the breakout occurs during a period of relatively high volatility (as measured by Ichimoku cloud thickness) rather than a low-energy fakeout. This strategy bets on the persistence of trend momentum once structural and volume-based confirmation is achieved.
Components
- Supported for-in empty array slice result negative body history (regime) — Acts as a 'Data Integrity' regime filter. If the historical series index resolution fails (returns na), the strategy remains inactive, ensuring execution only occurs on stable historical data feeds.
- ADX Crossing INGM (direction) — Determines the directional bias via DI+ and DI- crossovers. Despite its repainting history, it provides the primary trend-following logic.
- Support and Resistance (Fractal-based) (entry) — Provides the specific price triggers. We enter only when price breaks a confirmed fractal level, ensuring structural validation.
- Pivot Points (Classic) (exit) — Fixed institutional levels used for take-profit targets, providing objective exit points regardless of intraday noise.
- Average True Range (NNFX) (risk) — Normalizes risk by setting stop losses and position sizes based on current market volatility.
- Buddha Money Flow (confirmation) — Confirms that price breaks are supported by actual volume delta, filtering out low-liquidity stop-runs.
- Modern Ichimoku Cloud [GBB] (volatility_filter) — Filters out low-volatility regimes. Only trades when the Cloud Thickness (normalized by ATR) is above a minimum percentile, avoiding 'chop'.
Known failure conditions
- Failure of CVD to correlate with price breakouts over a 20-trade sample (indicates spoofing/noise).
- ADX DI lines frequently oscillating in a tight range, causing rapid direction flips.
- Fractal levels becoming too dense in a narrow range, leading to over-trading.
