Frictionless Structural Breakout Strategy

Thesis
Price trends persist most effectively when there is an imbalance between price movement and volume resistance (Ease of Movement). By identifying these 'low friction' windows within a momentum regime (Connect MACD) and waiting for a structural confirmation (Flip Flop), the strategy enters at the acceleration point of a move. Risk is localized to the most recent consolidation range (Boxline), assuming that if price returns into that box, the 'easy' trend has failed.
Components
- Connect MACD (Azullian) (regime) — Identifies the broad momentum regime to ensure entries are aligned with the prevailing trend.
- Ease of Movement (EOM) (direction) — Filters for 'path of least resistance' by ensuring price is moving with low volume friction relative to price change.
- Flip Flop Indicator (entry) — Triggers entry on structural breaks of recent bearish/bullish exhaustion levels.
- Chandelier Exit (Heiken Ashi) (exit) — Provides a volatility-adjusted trailing stop using smoothed HA prices to ignore minor noise.
- Boxline (Dynamic Range Breakout) (risk) — Defines the hard stop loss level and calculates position size based on the most recent consolidated range.
- Spread Monitor (Tick-Level) (volatility_filter) — Prevents entry during periods of extreme illiquidity or news-driven spread widening.
Known failure conditions
- Strategy fails in high-volume 'grinding' markets where EOM remains near zero despite price movement.
- Failure occurs if Boxline ranges are too tight (low volatility), leading to immediate stop-outs on spread alone.
- The hypothesis is invalidated if Flip Flop signals consistently occur at the end of exhaustive moves rather than start of trends.
