GARCH-Framework Pivot Expansion Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Forex, Indices, Equities · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
The strategy exploits the phenomenon of volatility clustering (modeled via GARCH) and structural breakout momentum. It assumes that once price clears a long-term MA Channel and aligns with Daily Pivot sentiment, a high-probability expansion phase begins. By using exogenous Q-Levels (representing dealer hedging or large order blocks), the strategy targets areas of known liquidity for exits rather than relying on arbitrary percentage gains.
Components
- MA Channel (Framework Version) (regime) — Establishes the primary trend regime; price must sustain a breakout above the high-price MA or below the low-price MA to define a tradable trend state.
- SuperTrend & Pivots (direction) — Provides local trend direction and daily structural anchors (Pivots) to ensure entries occur in alignment with daily sentiment.
- Legacy Trading Connector (OptionX) (entry) — Serves as the signal execution bridge, triggering the trade only when the internal logic generates the specific Arrow IDs (233 for Call/Long, 234 for Put/Short).
- Q-Levels V2.2 (exit) — Uses exogenous data (gamma walls, expected moves) to set hard take-profit targets that internal price-action indicators often miss.
- Conditional Volatility (CV) (risk) — Uses GARCH(1,1) to dynamically adjust position sizing; as conditional volatility clusters and rises, risk per trade is reduced.
- Stochastic Oscillator (confirmation) — Confirms momentum recovery from an oversold/overbought state within the broader trend.
- Bollinger Bands (Standard) (volatility_filter) — Filters out trades during low-volatility "squeezes" or identifies breakout strength when price touches/pierces the bands.
Known failure conditions
- The GARCH model (CV) fails to capture sudden 'black swan' volatility spikes due to its reliance on historical returns (lag).
- Q-Levels syntax errors or stale manual text inputs lead to missing or incorrect exit targets.
- Prolonged sideways markets where the MA Channel narrows significantly, leading to high-frequency Trend state flips (0 to 1).
