Gator-HiLo Relative Strength Impulse
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Equities, Forex, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Market trends occur in cycles of expansion and contraction (breathing). A trend entry is most reliable when an asset shows relative strength against its peers (Performance Table), is transitioning from a period of low volatility to 'awakening' (Gator), and displays internal momentum acceleration (QQE). By filtering for liquidity (V3-CORPUS), we avoid false signals during market gaps.
Components
- Gator Oscillator (Standard) (regime) — Identifies the 'awakening' phase (regime) where the market transitions from consolidation to trend expansion.
- HiLo Activator (Gann Style) (direction) — Filters for the primary trend direction and provides a trailing structure for market bias.
- Qualitative Quantitative Estimation (QQE) with Alerts (entry) — Generates entry signals when internal momentum (smoothed RSI) crosses its volatility-based trailing stop.
- Relative Strength Index (Standard) (exit) — Provides an objective exit point based on overbought/oversold levels to capture the impulse before reversal.
- Performance Table (risk) — Used for symbol selection and risk allocation; only assets showing relative strength in the specified lookback are traded.
- V3-CORPUS-FRACTIONAL-SERIES-DIVISION-INT (volatility_filter) — Ensures market liquidity by verifying that bar intervals are consistent with the chart timeframe (no massive time gaps).
Known failure conditions
- Gator remains in 'sleeping' phase (red bars) while price exhibits high volatility, indicating noise rather than trend.
- RSI reaches exit thresholds (70/30) before QQE confirms an entry, suggesting a late-stage move.
- V3-CORPUS shows irregular bar intervals, indicating severe illiquidity or data feed gaps.
