KNN-MESA Structural Momentum Hybrid
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities, Forex, Crypto · Timeframes: 1H, 4H
Thesis
Trading edges are found at the intersection of volume-confirmed momentum and structural cycle exhaustion. By using KNN to classify volume-trend regimes and Ehlers MESA to time cycles, we enter when price 'exhausts' its counter-trend move within a broader high-volume trend, as defined by market structure (ZigZag).
Components
- ZigZag (regime) — Defines the long-term structural bias. By identifying the last confirmed swing high/low, we ensure we only trade in the direction of established market structure.
- Volume SuperTrend AI (Expo) (direction) — Uses KNN to classify the current volume-weighted trend state, providing a probabilistic direction based on historical price-volume proximity.
- Ehlers MESA Stochastic (MSTOCH) (entry) — Uses signal processing to isolate the cyclic component of price; provides precise entry timing by identifying the end of a counter-trend pullback.
- Heikin-Ashi Candles (exit) — Provides a noise-filtered trend-following exit. The smoothed nature of HA candles prevents premature exits on minor price fluctuations.
- Auto Fibonacci (risk) — Dynamically calculates support/resistance levels based on the current price range to set objective stop-loss levels and calculate position sizing.
- MA Channel (Framework Version) (volatility_filter) — Acts as a volatility and momentum gate; trades are only permitted when price has escaped the central 'noise' channel.
Known failure conditions
- ZigZag pivots are not formed for extended periods (low volatility), leading to stale regime bias.
- MSTOCH stays pegged at extremes (0 or 100) during runaway trends, preventing entry.
- KNN classification accuracy drops below 50% in choppy, low-volume environments.
