Log-Volatility FVG Breakout Engine
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities, Forex, Crypto-indices (e.g., BTC/ETH) · Timeframes: 5M (Entry) / 1H (HTF Bias)
Thesis
Market participants move price to fill liquidity imbalances (FVGs). By entering on a price breakout (TBO) only when institutional momentum (RSI) and relative asset strength (AI Pair) align—and only during high-activity sessions (Varip)—we capture impulsive moves with a volatility-adjusted (MSLE) risk profile and a zero-lag exit (MCNMA).
Components
- Supported user type array varip declaration (regime) — Acts as a 'session intensity' filter; the varip modifier allows tracking intra-bar tick accumulation to ensure the strategy only operates during high-liquidity environments where breakouts are more likely to be valid.
- ICT + FVG + RSI V1.2.12 (direction) — Provides the directional bias based on institutional order flow (FVG) and momentum (RSI). Longs are only permitted when a bullish imbalance exists on a higher timeframe.
- TradeBreakOut (TBO) (entry) — Triggers the actual entry execution when price clears a 50-period local resistance or support, confirming the momentum suggested by the FVG.
- McNicholl EMA (MCNMA) (exit) — The zero-lag TEMA-based exit ensures the strategy captures the meat of the trend but exits rapidly once the parabolic move flattens, minimizing drawdown from 'overshoot' corrections.
- Mean Squared Logarithmic Error (MSLE) (risk) — Quantifies the 'unpredictability' of price movements. Higher MSLE suggests the asset is deviating erratically from its log-growth path, necessitating reduced position size or wider stops.
- AI Pair Trading System v1.0 (volatility_filter) — Filters out trades where the primary asset is underperforming relative to a benchmark (e.g., ETH vs BTC), ensuring we only enter trades with positive relative strength.
Known failure conditions
- Persistent low-volatility regimes where MSLE remains high while TBO generates whipsaws.
- Asset delisting or extreme gap-downs that bypass the MCNMA exit logic.
- Correlation breakdown in the AI Pair Trading benchmark asset.
