Thesis
Market participants tend to underreact to early trend changes and overreact once momentum accelerates out of a volatility squeeze. By identifying 'momentum-of-momentum' (DOsMA) within a high-timeframe trend (DEMA/ADX) as volatility expands (Bollinger Bands), we capture the most liquid 'meat' of a trend while using volatility-based stops (SuperTrend) to mitigate noise-induced exits.
Components
- DEMA 200 & ADX Combined HUD (regime) — Filters for high-probability momentum environments where primary trends are statistically more likely to persist.
- Difference of OsMA (DOsMA) (direction) — Captures the acceleration of momentum (the 'jerk' of price) to ensure we are entering during the strength of the move.
- UTBot Alerts (entry) — Acts as the tactical trigger using ATR-based trailing levels to identify local price breakouts.
- Sherif Hilo (exit) — Provides a trailing exit based on HHV/LLV extremes to capture the meat of a trend while allowing for volatility.
- SuperTrend MT5 (FxGeek) (risk) — Determines the initial hard stop-loss and dynamic risk-per-trade based on current volatility.
- RSI Area (Histogram) (confirmation) — Confirms that the breakout is not overextended (avoiding entries deep in OB/OS territory).
- Bollinger Bands (volatility_filter) — Ensures the strategy only engages when volatility is expanding out of a squeeze.
Known failure conditions
- Prolonged sideways consolidation where BB Bandwidth remains below the 20th percentile of its 1-year history.
- Frequent 'fakeouts' where DEMA regime is positive but SuperTrend and Sherif Hilo provide conflicting exit signals immediately after entry.
