MTF Momentum Normalization Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX (Majors), Indices (DAX, S&P500), Commodities (Gold) · Timeframes: H1
Thesis
Market participants exhibit herd behavior that manifests as 'momentum clusters' across multiple timeframes. By using a Fisher Transform to normalize the noise of price action and requiring volume-backed (PVT) multi-timeframe (MTF MA) alignment, we can identify high-probability trend entries while using the Ichimoku Kijun-sen as a proxy for the 'fair value' equilibrium for exits. The edge relies on the assumption that once volume and cross-timeframe momentum align, price will tend to trend until it returns to its medium-term equilibrium.
Components
- Heikin-Ashi Candles (regime) — Acts as a noise filter to ensure the trade is initiated only when the immediate trend structure is smoothed and directional.
- Multi Timeframe Moving Average Dashboard (direction) — Provides the 'anchor' bias by ensuring that aggregate market structure across M15, H1, H4, and D1 is aligned with the trade direction.
- Fisher Transform (EarnForex) (entry) — Normalizes price distribution to identify the exact cyclical turning point where momentum shifts from exhaustive to expansive.
- Ichimoku Kinko Hyo (exit) — Utilizes the Kijun-sen (Base Line) as a dynamic trailing exit representing the medium-term equilibrium.
- Daily High Low (risk) — Defines structural risk levels based on previous day extremes, which often act as liquidity magnets or hard resistance/support.
- Price and Volume Trend (PVT) (confirmation) — Confirms that the momentum detected by Fisher is backed by institutional money flow, filtering out 'hollow' price moves.
- Calendar Session Utility (volatility_filter) — Restricts trading to high-liquidity hours where trend-following hypotheses are more statistically significant.
Known failure conditions
- Persistent divergence where MTF MAs remain bullish but PVT makes lower highs.
- Price spends >70% of session time within the Kumo (Ichimoku Cloud), indicating a lack of directional conviction.
- Volatility collapse where the Daily High/Low range is less than the 20-period ATR.
