OptionX Structural Trend Burst
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: M15, H1
Thesis
The strategy operates on the hypothesis that price momentum is self-reinforcing when aligned with a medium-term trend and confirmed by structural reversal levels. By entering only when recent price action is consistently above/below a baseline (SMA) and triggered by an external structural signal (OptionX), we capture 'trend bursts.' Using Bollinger Bands for exits allows for taking profit as the move reaches a statistical volatility extreme (2 standard deviations), while Pivot Levels provide objective, albeit repainting-prone, structural stops.
Components
- Simple Moving Average (SMA) (regime) — Establishes the primary trend filter to ensure entries align with the dominant market direction.
- Supported plot Input Show Last (direction) — Ensures that the directional momentum is recent and consistent over the last N bars, filtering out sporadic spikes.
- Legacy Trading Connector (OptionX) (entry) — Acts as the trigger mechanism by capturing external market structure signals via standard MT5 arrow/buffer IDs.
- Bollinger Bands (Standard) (exit) — Provides volatility-based exit targets, capturing exhaustion at the outer bands.
- Pivot Points Reversal Levels (risk) — Defines structural invalidation points for stop-loss placement based on two-bar reversal price levels.
Known failure conditions
- Price frequently breaches Pivot Levels only to immediately reverse (whipsaw).
- External signal source (OptionX input) loses efficacy or has a lower win rate than the spread/payout ratio.
- The Pivot Points Reversal component crashes the platform due to O(N^2) complexity on lower timeframes.
