Relative Strength Order Block Expansion (RSOBE) Strategy
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities, Forex, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Assets that exhibit relative strength compared to a benchmark tend to persist in their outperformance when momentum resets (Order Blocks) are followed by price expansion (Boxline breakouts). By combining institutional volume footprints with smoothed momentum quality (RSX), we can filter out 'fake' breakouts and enter during high-velocity trend continuations.
Components
- Relative Strength Line [WavesUnchained] (regime) — Filters for symbols that are both outperforming the market and maintaining their own trend (confluence of MRS and Price > EMA).
- Average Force (direction) — Determines the short-term directional bias based on the relative position within a recent range.
- Sonarlab - Order Blocks (entry) — Identifies high-momentum institutional entries (Supply/Demand zones) to use as entry triggers.
- Moving Average Convergence Divergence (MACD) (exit) — Standard momentum exhaustion tool to capture the 'meat' of the trend and exit before major reversals.
- Volume and Pivot Points Correlation with Full Control (risk) — Uses volume-confirmed high/low pivots to establish non-arbitrary support and resistance for risk management.
- RSX (Relative Strength Quality Index) (confirmation) — Provides a low-lag momentum confirmation to ensure price is not exhausted before entry.
- Boxline (Range Breakout) (volatility_filter) — Ensures the strategy only operates during price expansion phases by requiring a breakout from consolidation.
Known failure conditions
- The symbol maintains a high RS but the benchmark itself enters a secular bear market (correlation collapse).
- Price creates multiple Order Blocks that are immediately violated, indicating a low-liquidity 'choppy' environment.
