Stable Drift Relative Strength Composite
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: Equities, Forex, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
This strategy hypothesizes that assets exhibiting high relative strength (Mansfield RS) and low prediction error (RMSE) are in 'clean' institutional accumulation/distribution phases. By entering only when multiple moving averages align and volume confirms a breakout, we isolate high-probability trend continuations. The use of an Asset Drift Model (ADM) for risk ensures that stop-losses are placed beyond the asset's noise floor (variance), reducing the probability of 'random walk' stop-outs.
Components
- Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE) (regime) — Used as a regime filter to ensure the current trend is stable (low prediction error) rather than erratic or parabolic.
- Relative Strength Line [WavesUnchained] (direction) — Filters for assets outperforming a benchmark index, ensuring we only trade the 'strongest of the strong' or 'weakest of the weak'.
- Stochastic Oscillator (entry) — Provides the tactical entry trigger by identifying momentum turns within the established higher-timeframe trend.
- Momentum Oscillator (exit) — Serves as a mean-reversion exit signal when the rate-of-change begins to decay.
- Asset Drift Model (ADM) (risk) — Provides a statistical basis for stop-loss placement and position sizing based on the asset's observed variance and drift stationarity.
- Moving Average Ribbon (chingc) (confirmation) — Confirms trend alignment across multiple time horizons (20 to 200 periods) to avoid counter-trend traps.
- KandleKings™ WatchTower v1.0 (volatility_filter) — Acts as a final volatility and volume gate, ensuring entry occurs during a period of high participation (Volume > 1.5x SMA).
Known failure conditions
- The benchmark symbol (e.g., SPY) becomes highly correlated with the asset in a sideways regime, causing RS whipsaws.
- The ADM Drift signal becomes non-significant (t-stat < 1.96), indicating a transition to pure random walk.
- RMSE remains persistently above its 50-period average, suggesting a breakdown in trend stability.
