Volume POC Expansion & Murrey Fractal Strategy
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: high · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Indices · Timeframes: H1, H4
Thesis
The strategy operates on the premise that markets move from states of high-volume equilibrium (POC) to low-volume fractal extremes. By entering when the Range Expansion Index (momentum) and Schaff Trend Cycle (cyclicality) align while price is outside the Value Area, we capture the transition between these price nodes. The Murrey Math lines provide non-arbitrary targets for these expansion moves.
Components
- Volume Profile + Pivot Levels [ChartPrime] (regime) — Establishes the market regime by identifying the Point of Control (POC). Trading away from POC suggests an expansion phase, while trading at POC suggests consolidation.
- Schaff Trend Cycle (STC) (direction) — Provides the directional bias by identifying the cyclical trend state, smoothing out MACD noise to avoid premature entries.
- Range Expansion Index (REI) (entry) — Acts as the execution trigger by identifying momentum acceleration and filtering out sideways noise through its internal price-velocity logic.
- Murrey Math Line X (exit) — Provides structural price targets based on fractal math, offering objective exit points at high/low probability reversal zones.
- Spread Display and Alert (risk) — Serves as a friction filter to prevent entries during liquidity gaps or news-driven spread widening.
- Average True Range (ATR) (volatility_filter) — Used to normalize stop-loss distances and ensure the market has enough 'energy' to reach targets.
Known failure conditions
- Price remains within +/- 5% of the Volume POC for extended periods (Mean Reversion regime).
- Murrey Math levels reset frequently due to new historical highs/lows, causing target-chasing.
- Spread consistently exceeds 10% of the ATR value, eroding the edge.
