Volumetric Momentum Explosion Strategy
Family: trend_following · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Trends accompanied by rising volume and volatility 'explosions' represent institutional participation. By using ADX to measure directional strength and WAE to measure the rate of change against volatility bands, the strategy enters only when a trend has sufficient momentum to overcome structural pivots, exiting as soon as that momentum decelerates. This avoids 'overstaying' in a trend that is losing its volatility support.
Components
- Custom 006 Hybrid Table Scanner (regime) — Filters for 'active' trends by requiring both price alignment (EMA 21/50) and participation (Volume > SMA).
- Dynamic EMA with Box Method Selector (direction) — Acts as a high-frequency trend filter to ensure the immediate price action aligns with the broader regime.
- ADX / Connectable [Azullian] (entry) — Triggers entry based on the Directional Index crossover confirmed by rising ADX (trend strength).
- Waddah Attar Explosion (WAE) (exit) — Identifies the 'explosion' of momentum. Exit occurs when momentum fades below the volatility threshold (Explosion Line).
- Pivot Points Reversal Levels (risk) — Provides structural support/resistance levels for hard stop-loss placement based on recent 2-bar reversal patterns.
- Relative Strength Index (RSI) (confirmation) — Prevents buying into overextended exhaustion phases (overbought) or selling into oversold conditions.
Known failure conditions
- Market enters a 'low-volatility grind' where WAE never triggers the Explosion line but price hits stops via noise.
- Consecutive false ADX signals in a tightening wedge where volume remains high but direction is neutral.
