VWAP-Grid Volume Node Breakout
Family: hybrid · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: FX, Equities, Crypto · Timeframes: M15, H1
Thesis
Institutional 'fair value' (VWAP) dictates the path of least resistance, but price execution is most efficient at psychological grid levels and Low Volume Nodes (LVNs). By entering only when price breaks out of a consolidation (Boxline) that formed at these confluence points, we capture the transition from range-bound liquidity building to directional momentum.
Components
- Dynamic Supply and Demand Zones [AlgoAlpha] (regime) — Defines the tradeable regime by identifying Low Volume Nodes (LVNs) where price discovery is thin, increasing the probability of sharp rejections.
- VWAP (direction) — Establishes the institutional directional bias; we only trade in the direction of the current session's volume-weighted average price.
- Grid Points Utility (entry) — Acts as a psychological filter, ensuring entries occur only at fixed point intervals where limit-order clusters typically reside.
- Supply & Demand Zones (NNFX) (exit) — Identifies structural pivot-based exhaustion zones for logical take-profit targets based on body-to-wick price action.
- Boxline (Range Breakout) (risk) — Provides a volatility-adjusted risk framework by using consolidation boundaries to define stop-loss levels and entry confirmation.
Known failure conditions
- Price consistently ignores Grid Points during high-volatility news events (slippage risk).
- VWAP remains flat while price oscillates through it, leading to whip-saw signals.
- Dynamic Supply/Demand zones fail to refresh in trending markets, leaving the strategy without a valid regime filter.
