Zero-Lag Fractal Order Flow Breakout
Family: breakout · Regime: trending · Complexity: medium · Asset classes: Forex, Equities, Indices · Timeframes: H1, H4, D1
Thesis
Market trends are most tradable when momentum 'explodes' out of historical fractal structures. By using a zero-lag trend filter and cumulative swing index, we filter out noise. By anchoring risk to high-momentum Order Blocks, we place stops behind structural barriers that are likely to be defended by institutional participants. The edge exists because price breakouts often signal a shift in consensus that persists until momentum reaches a volatility-adjusted exhaustion point.
Components
- Zero Lag Least Squares Moving Average (ZLSMA) (regime) — Defines the trend regime; zero-lag ensures we are not entering late in a trend cycle.
- Accumulation Swing Index (ASI) (direction) — Filters direction by ensuring price action strength is cumulative and not just a single-bar anomaly.
- Mn Fractal Store (entry) — Provides specific price-level triggers based on broken historical peaks/troughs (market structure).
- Waddah Attar Explosion (WAE) (exit) — Exits the trade when the 'explosion' of momentum peaks and begins to contract against the trend.
- Sonarlab - Order Blocks (risk) — Anchors risk to high-momentum supply/demand zones, providing a structural floor/ceiling for stops.
Known failure conditions
- Price perpetually oscillates across the ZLSMA without breaking fractal levels.
- Order Blocks are consistently 'run' (mitigated) before the WAE exit triggers, indicating a regime of liquidity sweeps rather than trends.
- ASI values stagnate in a narrow range while price makes nominal new highs/lows (divergence).
